A clean human skull, formed entirely out of gothic letters and punctuation marks, meets the viewer s gaze dead-on.

Mistigram: this elegant #textmode #skull, given rather more texture through use of a remapped #ASCIIart font than the ANSI bonehead it appeared alongside in last month's spooky MIST1025 artpack collection, is of course the handiwork of [profile] littlebitspace.

Mistigram: this #PETSCII illustration by [profile] littlebitspace, 'The Last Gambit', presents an existential scene, all of us kings in our games of #chess, all doomed to #checkmate. This piece was included in the spooky MIST1024 artpack collection released one year ago.
A skull sits on a chess board, casting behind it the shadow of a crowned head.

If you take your time and are mindful of their centres of gravity, you can balance a human skull in the space between two other human skulls, nested in the gaps between three lower human skulls.

Mistigram: one person's composition is another tribunal's evidence of war crimes. This artfully-arranged #PETSCII pyramid of human skulls is the handiwork of [profile] littlebitspace, resonant with his deck of skeletal Tarot cards. It was included in the spooky MIST1022 artpack.

In front of the calligraphed words Memento Te Mori, a person stands in front of a mirror and sees their skeleton looking back at them.

Mistodon: Memento te mori means Remember you must die, & mortality is sure on the mind of the person looking in this mirror. [profile] littlebitspace won first place with it in the #PETSCII compo at last year's [Bad username or site: flashparty @ ar] ! It was also included in the spooky MIST1024 artpack collection.

A four-armed, four-legged skeleton stands spread-eagle in a square in a circle.

Mistigram: #LeonardoDaVinci used his #VitruvianMan design to model ideal human proportions, but [profile] littlebitspace found there was still one small area for improvement, and stripped the obfuscating flesh from those big, beautiful bones in this #teletext adaptation, included in last year's spooky MIST1024 artpack collection.

A black cat side-eyes the viewer, unimpressed.

Mistigram: this greyscale #PETSCII portrait of ndh's black #cat, Kiki, was drawn by [profile] littlebitspace and included in last month's #cat-themed MIST0725 artpack collection.
mistfunk: Mistigris: est. 1994 (Default)
A lion s symmetrical face, half in shadow, stares back at the viewer head-on.

Mistigram: the King of the Jungle here was drawn in #PETSCII characters by [profile] littlebitspace, and was included in the new cat-themed MIST0725 artpack collection. (Q: What's a #lion's favorite compression format? A: Rar!)

A picture of a housecat is drawn in white against a black background using punctuation marks and slashes.

Mistigram: in unixlikes, the command 'cat' outputs the contents of a file to the screen. In this case the file was a (#PETSCII) #ASCIIart illustration of a cat, so the artist [profile] littlebitspace needed to 'cat cat'. This recursive piece was included in the new cat-themed MIST0725 artpack.

framed in the darkness by small architectural elements, pieces of rooftops, walls, doorways and hedges are artfully arranged to depict what might be characterised as the skull of a town golem.

Mistigram: you may recall our sharing of [profile] littlebitspace's "Castle Kit" font a bit over a week ago. As it turns out, castles are not the only thing you can draw in #textmode with its collection of remapped #PETSCII glyphs, and I rather suspect that drawing a #skull is the artist's personal "Hello World" for any new creative environment. From the recent unthemed MIST0625 artpack collection, we give you: Castlehead.
mistfunk: Mistigris: est. 1994 (Default)
Arising from woodland scrub and a small farmer s plot emerges the contours of a castle s walls and towers, behind the name of the artist littlebitspace, spelled out architecturally. Behind it all the night sky twinkles with stars and glows with clouds charged with faint mystical energy.

Mistigram: "Castle Kit" is one of three remapped #PETSCII fonts created by [profile] littlebitspace. As its name suggests, its 8x8px blocks are intended for use illustrating scenes of monumental medieval architecture with specialised textmode semigraphics. This screen, demonstrating both its use and abuse, was included in the new, unthemed MIST0625 artpack collection.

Written in stylish white letters against a black background, framed by curlicue textmode ornaments above, below and in the corners is written the phrase Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow.

Mistigram: when most artists design a logo, they don't design every single letterform in the alphabet. Here [profile] littlebitspace demonstrates a #pangram, a phrase intended to demonstrate all the letters. This piece was included in the new unthemed MIST0625 artpack collection.

Looking down from above, we see a rectangular tray supporting two teacups and other tea service paraphernalia.

Mistigram: in all the beverage discourse this week, we have overlooked one of the all-time classics. [profile] littlebitspace represents here again with this bird's eye #asciiart representation of a Japanese #tea ceremony service. This piece, titled "Tea Is Eternal", was included in the recent food-themed IMBIBE01 electronic magazine.
mistfunk: Mistigris: est. 1994 (Default)
A dainty teacup flies through the air at a jaunty angle, gently separating from its saucer, as its delicious tea begins sloshing over its edge, destined for an expensive white carpet or leather sofa.

Mistigram: there's not much hot gossip in the recent food-themed IMBIBE01 electronic magazine, but nevertheless there [profile] littlebitspace was, spilling the #tea, #ASCIIart style. Truly a scene to make Arthur Dent cry.

A pot of tea is viewed in profile, with the cha (茶) character emblazoned on its side.

Mistigram: before he mastered #ASCIIart, another niche field in which [profile] littlebitspace had steeped was the world of #tea infusion and service. This piece from his back catalogue represents an overlap of both worlds, yet despite its relative vintage (only four years old!) it is still relatively fresh relatively to the materials from the '90s which it was served up alongside in the time capsule of the new IMBIBE01 electronic magazine about food and drink.

On a textmode representation of a windowed computer desktop, overlapping windows are shown demonstrating ouija, star chart and tarot programs (that latter being the foreground program) being run simultaneously. Other programs are suggested by a task bar at the bottom of the screen.

Mistigram: on the top floor of the wizard's tower, when they're done pondering their orb they fire up a vintage 8-bit computer and use it to answer some e-mails. This #PETSCII-inspired concept sketch of DivineOS, running all the essential magic apps, was drawn by [profile] littlebitspace and included in the recent MIST-30 artpack celebration.

An angular grey Mistfunk logo hovers in the blackness above a pair of small skulls facing each other.

Mistigram: we've never released a .WAD, but in the wake of "DOOM: The Gallery Experience" perhaps we should try our hand at it. In the meantime, here's a stone cold #ASCIIart / #blockASCII Mistfunk logo drawn by [profile] littlebitspace and used as an infofile header in the recent MIST-30 celebration artpack.

You ve all read Linda Harden s old 90s UseNet post The Physics of Santa Claus , ending in the phrase : In conclusion - If Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he s dead now. Well, here s picture evidence.

Mistigram: for this date in last year's ADVENT23 #AdventCalendar, [profile] littlebitspace drew a magnificent and chilling #blockASCII portrait of the late Jolly Old St. Nick, apparently reduced to nowt but bones and beard following his magical night's impossible exertions.
mistfunk: Mistigris: est. 1994 (Default)
Extreme close-up view of snowflakes in a blizzard allows us to observe that a tiny human skull sits at the precise centre of each one of them.

Mistigram: with aid of a microscope, [profile] littlebitspace conducted some #blockASCII research investigating just why snowflakes are so cold in this screen from today's date in last year's ADVENT23 #AdventCalendar. His report back: be very glad they are not warm.
mistfunk: Mistigris: est. 1994 (Default)
The Grim Reaper moonlights one night a year for Santa Claus, and sometimes the jolly old elf returns the favour.

Mistigram: [profile] littlebitspace drew this wickedly grim #ANSIart screen for this date in last year's ADVENT23 #AdventCalendar.

It s cold and snowing outside, but the cat is curled up inside on the warm windowsill. Across the sill from it sits a fleshless human skull, defying the viewer to inquire after its backstory. (It can t answer, it s dead! The cat may know something, but it s not talking.)

Mistigram: [profile] littlebitspace drew this cozy-but-not-relaxing #monochrome #blockASCII screen of an indoor view through a crowded window on a snowy day for this date in last year's ADVENT23 #AdventCalendar. The house rule is: don't rub the cat's tummy.
